NAV CANADA earns coveted four-leaf status from Audubon

Audubon Green Leaf Eco-RatingThe NAV CANADA Training and Conference Centre has been officially recognized as one of Canada’s most environmentally friendly meeting facilities. In 2008, the Centre earned four-leaf status (out of five) through the Audubon Green Leaf™ Eco-Rating Program. To qualify, the Centre demonstrated to an independent auditor that it had met rigorous standards for everything from energy consumption and waste management to educational initiatives and operating practices. Fewer than 20 facilities in Canada have earned four-leaf status.

The Centre continues to work toward the top level. Recent environmental initiatives include:

  • Replacement of incandescent light bulbs with compact-fluorescent bulbs in all guest rooms and common areas (a total of more than 2,000 bulbs)
  • Recycling of all paper, glass and aluminum cans
  • Implementation of plan to reduce water usage
  • Planting of drought-hardy shrubs on grounds

Audubon launched the Green Leaf™ Program a decade ago in response to growing demand for a comprehensive and credible tool to measure the environmental impact of hotels, motels, B&Bs and meeting facilities. While many facilities implement green initiatives in an effort to reduce operating expenses, few also address key aspects such as employee education and guest awareness.

We encourage our guests to go green, as well

  • For stays of fewer than five nights, use only a single set of towels and bedding
  • When leaving the room, turn off lights and climate-control systems
  • Recycle cans, bottles and paper in the containers provided throughout the facility
